Short answer
Most UnlockTool errors have three causes: no active license (account not activated), a blocked connection (firewall, antivirus or VPN) or missing drivers (waiting for COM ports, handshake, firehose). Update to v2026.10.14.0, install the official driver pack and check your license first.

Error messages and fixes
| Message | Usual cause | Try this |
|---|---|---|
| Account is not activated | No active license on this account, or the order is still being processed. | Check your order page; buy a new activation or renewal if the account has no license. |
| Login error / error code 200 or 400 | The license server refused the sign-in. Usually that's an expired license, the wrong account, an outdated build or a blocked connection. | Confirm the license is active, update to the latest build, and allow UnlockTool through the firewall and antivirus. |
| Error code 0xDC (and other hex codes) | Codes like 0xDC, 200 or 400 are returned either by the license server or by the phone's protocol during an operation. The same code can mean different things on different devices, so there's no single meaning. | Check the license is active, update to the latest build, reinstall drivers, reconnect in the right mode and try another cable and port. If it repeats, send a screenshot of the full log and the model to support. |
| Binded PC / bound to another PC | The license is linked to a different computer. | A PC change is allowed every 6 hours; wait or contact support. |
| A connection attempt failed / server not responding / not opening | Firewall, proxy, VPN or DNS is blocking the license server. | Allow UnlockTool in Windows Firewall and antivirus, disable the VPN/proxy, and try another network. |
| Waiting for COM ports / waiting for device | Windows can't see the phone in the right mode, usually because drivers are missing. | Install the driver pack (VCOM, Qualcomm 9008, SPD), use a rear USB 2.0 port and a data cable, and enter the correct mode (BROM, EDL, download). |
| Trying to connect to firehose mode / writing flash programmer fail | Qualcomm EDL: the loader (programmer) does not match the device or the port reset. | Update UnlockTool for the newest loaders, re-enter EDL (test point if needed) and retry on a different USB port. |
| Handshake no response / protocol failed to handshake | MediaTek BROM was not caught, or the VCOM driver is missing. | Install MTK VCOM drivers, hold the correct key combination before connecting, and use the auth-bypass option where supported. |
| Waiting for ADB / waiting for recovery | USB debugging is off, not authorised, or ADB drivers are missing. | Enable USB debugging, accept the RSA prompt on the phone, and install ADB drivers. |
| Waiting for SSH / could not connect to lockdownd (Apple) | The ramdisk did not boot or Apple USB drivers are missing. | Use the PWND device, the matching ramdisk file and install Apple Mobile Device Support (iTunes). |
| Timeout error occurred | The connection dropped during an operation. | Use a short data cable, a rear USB port without hubs, and keep the phone charged. |
Is the UnlockTool server down?
There's no public status page for the UnlockTool server, so the quickest way to know is to rule out your own connection first:
- Open a few websites. If they're slow or don't load, the problem is your internet, not UnlockTool.
- Turn off any VPN or proxy and check Windows Firewall and your antivirus haven't blocked UnlockTool after an update.
- Try a different network, for example a mobile hotspot. If UnlockTool logs in there, your usual network or ISP is blocking it.
- Make sure you're on the latest build from the download page. Old builds can fail to connect after a server-side change.
If it still fails on two different networks with the latest build, it may be on the server side. Message support on WhatsApp for the current status.
Before you contact support
- Update to the latest build from the download page.
- Reinstall the drivers and try a rear USB 2.0 port.
- Check your license is active (log in to your UnlockTool account).
- Still stuck? Send a screenshot of the log and your phone model on WhatsApp.
